Making Tax Digital is a government plan to make tax reporting easier and more accurate. From April 2026, if you earn over £50,000 annually from self-employment or rental income, you’ll need to keep digital records and send updates to HMRC every 3 months using approved software. In April 2027, this will apply to people earning over £30,000 per year.
For more details, you can check out the official HMRC guidance on Making Tax Digital
You can still use a spreadsheet, but it must be connected to special software that can send your data to HMRC. This is called “bridging software.” If you prefer not to use software yourself, we can handle everything for you and make sure you stay compliant.
